Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that the Gunners are set to make a £25 million bid for Falcao this summer. The Porto star has impressed the Arsenal boss this season after firing the Portuguese club to a terrific treble.
The Colombian forward has scored 39 goals in all competitions this season, 18 of those coming in just 15 appearances in a Europa League winning campaign. The striker scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Braga in the Dublin final, proving himself on the big stage.
Arsene Wenger is very keen to bring Falcao to the Emirates after reports that the striker has rejected a new contract from Porto. He now only has two years left on his current deal, leaving Porto in a situation where they might have to sell in order to avoid losing him for free. A price tag of £25 million is something that Mr Wenger will not look upon too fondly but surely he needs to spend big this summer in order to challenge for honours again.
A move to the Emirates would be an appealing prospect for the 25 year-old as it would give him the chance to prove himself at the highest level. It is unlikely he would be as prolific in the Champions League which is a much higher standard but a partnership with Van Persie would be feared throughout Europe. Arsenal is not the only North London club interested in the player however.
Harry Redknapp is also rumoured to be tracking the player after a disappointing campaign for all the strikers at White Hart Lane in terms of goals. A move for the striker would be in the interest of both clubs as this is a top quality striker looking to shoot his way to international stardom.
The question is: will Redknapp or Wenger be willing to spend so much on one player?
