The Football Transfer Tavern is already looking forward to the newly renewed rivalry between Cardiff City and Swansea City following the arrival of the Bluebirds in the top flight and we can imagine there will be some spicy encounters during the forthcoming season.
The Express reports that the Welsh duo will now face a race to land Espanyol defender Hector Moreno after Russian side Rubin Kazan submitted an offer for the Mexican international.
Sources in Spain had earlier indicated that both clubs had made bids for the 25-year-old with hopes of bringing the talented 25-year-old defender to the Premier League this summer.
Espanyol have described the player as ‘untouchable’ but it was thought that an offer around £8 million would be enough to sign to the 2010 World Cup Mexico star with the Barcelona-based club suffering from financial difficulties.
Russian giants Rubin Kazan have now intensified the pursuit by reportedly submitting a £6 million bid for Moreno, with Espanyol president Joan Collet admitting that an offer had been received from Rubin.
Moreno’s agent, Jan van Baal, said: “We’re ready to initiate negotiations, as soon a the two clubs an agreement between themselves.”
Swansea were understood to be front runners for his signature after the former AZ Alkmaar man impressed boss Michael Laudrup in Holland and the Swans are thought to be tracking his progress in case skipper Ashley Williams departs this summer.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City’s interest is likely to have faded after they landed Tottenham ace Steven Caulker in a £8 million deal last week although Malky Mackay has confirmed that he is looking for new additions before the new campaign.
