It’s been a tough few weeks for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…
The close-season was far from perfect for the Blues, with a lack of transfer market success combined with a few poor results heading into the new campaign leaving very little to be excited about.
Following on from that, Chelsea’s competitive bow in the Community Shield against Arsenal ended in disappointment, with the Blues falling to the Gunners on penalties, whilst Chelsea were beaten 3-2 by Burnley on the opening day of the Premier League season.
In truth, things aren’t looking good at Stamford Bridge, but according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, the last thing that the Blues need to do is panic.
Carragher said: “Chelsea need to do the exact opposite of panicking…They’ve lost one game at home – they should be thinking now ‘relax'”.
He added: “They’ve got two games between now and the transfer window shutting. Antonio Conte needs to get two players in – they need strengthening, especially in the wing-back positions.”.
In essence, what Carragher is saying, is that Chelsea shouldn’t really do anything at all. They simply need to carry on their path and work hard ahead of a tough game against Tottenham. Off the field it’s a different matter entirely, of course, with transfers needed – but the last thing that the players should be doing is panicking.
Carragher is certainly right. Chelsea have lost a couple of players, sure, but the core group is still together, and just a few months ago they were winning the Premier League.
Their start has been far from ideal, but the season is long – and there is ample time to turn it around.
