The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking ahead to what is sure to be an exciting campaign next season. Though there is still the prospect of a Champions League final on the horizon this term, it’s fair to say that fans are hoping that next season will be even more productive.
In particular, there is clearly a desire from the Liverpool faithful to see their side return to the top of the English game. They haven’t put forward much of a title challenge as of late, and even this year – which could be their most impressive campaign in a very long time – has seen them fall short on home turf.
Jurgen Klopp will want to improve his team ahead of next season, and it’s clear that one area that the Reds need to improve is the midfield.
When everyone is fit, it’s arguably the strongest facet of Klopp’s team, but there simply isn’t enough strength in depth, and so this summer, the Reds need to address that.
Depth doesn’t need to come at the cost of quality, though. Liverpool should only be targeting Europe’s best this summer, and one option that could be perfect is Ligue 1 midfielder Jean Michel Seri.
Currently playing for Nice, the creative midfielder is a real catalyst in the heart of the French side’s midfield. A brilliant passer of the ball, he’s fantastic at moving play forward, and that is a trait that Liverpool have lacked somewhat this season – especially with Adam Lallana’s injury problems.
Beyond that, he’s also capable defensively, and he’s more than comfortable putting in a tackle and breaking up play. His arrival in the team, then, wouldn’t disrupt the midfield for Jurgen Klopp.
With Naby Keita arriving this summer, Seri would be fantastic alongside the tough tackling RB Leipzig man, and when you throw the likes of Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner into the fold, it’s clear that Liverpool’s midfield would go to another level.
