It’s been far from an ideal start to the 2014/15 season for Arsenal. The 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium prior to the international break destroyed any lingering hopes of a title challenge and ensured Chelsea held a 12 point gap over their London rivals at the top of the Premier League table.
With a second-placed finish and a potential draw against one of the European big boys the best Arsene Wenger’s side can hope for in the Champions League, the pressure has been turned up a notch on the Frenchman.
He has come under fire for his failure to land the required talent in the summer, with it remaining a mystery as to why the Arsenal boss did not bring in a top class holding midfielder and a centre back to replace Thomas Vermaelen.
And the excuse of an injury crisis has gone past the point of sounding like a broken record for Arsenal fans, frustrated the next two thirds of the season will have the familiar feeling of trying to secure a top four finish.
The difficult start has seen Arsenal linked with a host of names in the January transfer window, some of which – the likes of stealing Petr Cech from Chelsea for £7 million – seem somewhat unrealistic to say the least!
Here, we have gone through the rumours and identified five deals we simply can’t see happening this winter.
