Despite their simply heartbreaking loss last night in the Champions League to Juventus we here at the Football Transfer Tavern feel for Celtic and according to the Daily Telegraph there could well be more bad news for the club as Arsenal are targeting one of their top performers.
Arsene Wenger has set his sights firmly on Kenyan midfield enforcer Victor Wanyama after deciding the player is just what he needs at the Emirates Stadium in order to strengthen his team. Wanyama has been at the Scottish side since 2011 and the midfielder has placed himself firmly on the scene with solid performances and his never-say-die attitude for the club.
The Gunners boss sent scouts to watch the Champions League tie last night with a view to luring the player to North London and the Premier League in the summer. Of course after seeing Etienne Capoue slip through the net after a last ditch attempt to sign the Toulouse midfielder this January, the Frenchman has now turned his attention to other targets, namely the Celtic player.
The former Beerschot man has impressed for the SPL champions this season and has been a pivotal player in their Champions League run and progress to the last 16. Unfortunately for Celtic the rub of the green just did not happen for them last night and as Neil Lennon now says, it will take a ‘miracle’ for them to progress into the next round, as reported by BBC Sport.
Is Wanyama set to give Arsenal some added steel in midfield? Rate this rumour below.
