Celtic face battle to keep star man as Premier League club line up £18m bid

The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are very aware that striker Moussa Dembele will always be a wanted man when each transfer window opens.

They are hoping that he chooses to ignore any offers that might come in this January in order to stay with the Bhoys and seal Scottish Premiership glory yet again.

But some recent transfer rumours might see Celtic’s resolve tested.

According to The Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion will firm up their interest in Moussa Dembele with a concrete bid of £18m.

The Seagulls have had a relatively good start to life in the top tier of English football but they are lacking an out and out goal scorer to secure their safety.

Dembele could be the man to fire them up the league table.

The 21-year-old is likely to be a man in demand yet again as a number of clubs have expressed interest in the past.

But Brighton will be hoping to steal a march on their rivals and some bigger names by submitting an offer and presenting the France under-21 star with the chance to be a regular starter in a Premier League team to further his development.

Brighton face competition from Manchester United and Everton for Dembele’s signature.

Landlords’ verdict

Moussa Dembele is a tremendous prospect and he knows where the net is.

He will move on from Celtic one day but he is developing into an impressive player under Brendan Rodgers and perhaps January is not the time to move on.

If he does choose to join a Premier League team, Brighton or Everton would make more sense than Manchester United as he looks to force his way into France’s senior squad.
