Celtic may have sealed one of the deals of the month as Rodgers utilises his connections once again

The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are busy celebrating the news of Charly Musonda’s arrival in Scotland. The Belgian attacker, who currently plays for Chelsea, is set to spend the next 18 months across the border as he looks to seek regular game time away from Stamford Bridge.

It’s a move that should be getting Celtic fans very excited indeed, with our landlord touting it as arguably the deal of the window.

After all, whenever Musonda has played for Chelsea, he has looked good. An attacking midfielder by trade, the Belgian excels with the ball at his feet and when he is running at opposition defenders. Providing electric pace, fantastic enthusiasm and endless running, he will no doubt provide a massive threat in the attack for the Scottish side.

His main gift comes in his technique. From set pieces, when running with the ball or when trying to pass the ball on, Musonda is simply unstoppable.

The fact that he hasn’t featured much for Chelsea shouldn’t be taken away from him. The Blues are notorious for their lack of focus on youth development, and Musonda has been a real victim of that. When given a chance, particularly in the Carabao Cup, he has grasped it with both hands. That said, when Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian are ahead of you – it’s always going to be tough.

The fact that it’s an 18-month deal is important too. Rodgers won’t be worried about losing him immediately, with more than enough time for him to settle and make a name for himself. It works for Chelsea, too, as they’ll no doubt be drawing parallels with him and Andreas Christensen, who spent two years in Germany and came back a far better player.

Rodgers has made use of his connections in the past, notably to bring in former player Kolo Toure, and he’s likely to have done the same with Chelsea and Musonda. How he adjusts remains to be seen, but they have quite the player in the young Belgian. In a few months time, this signing could look like an inspired one for the Scottish outfit.
