The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are in the dark over Moussa Dembele’s future at the club. With a number of clubs chasing his signature, he could be on his way out of Parkhead this January.
And while Celtic will want to keep the France under-21 international at the club, Brendan Rodgers is experienced enough to know that he will need to already be considering replacements as a contingency plan in case Dembele does depart. One market that Rodgers will look to dip into is the Premier League.
There are a number of players in the Premier League who may be tempted by a move away from their club this January. This means that Celtic might be able to snap some players up on loan deals or permanently.
Saido Berahino, rated at £9m on Transfermarkt, is one player who Rodgers should be looking at. It would be a real gamble but if it comes off and Berahino can recapture some form, then they have some player on their hands.
The former England under-21 international has had a troubled spell at Stoke City since sealing a big money switch from West Bromwich Albion last January. Berahino has only managed 25 games for the Potters since this move and has not scored a single goal.
The young striker was once regarded as a future England international but his career is in decline. A move to Celtic could reinvigorate his career and get him firing again.
You just have to look at the template of Scott Sinclair. The attacker was struggling at Aston Villa but has been one of Celtic’s star performers since his switch from Villa Park. Berahino could be the next Sinclair.
