Celtic show late interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko

Celtic may have waited just a little too long to make a possible move happen this summer.

According to a report in Spain by ABC de Sevilla, the Bhoys had expressed a late interest in taking Oleksandr Zinchencko from Manchester City.

It is believed the Ukrainian is closing in on a loan move to Real Betis, meaning Brendan Rodgers’ side may have left it too late to strike a deal for the 21-year-old.

Celtic and Manchester City are thought to have an excellent relationship with each other, with the Premier League champions having worked with their Scottish counterparts on a number of temporary deals.

The likes of Jason Denayer, who is believed to be wanted back at Celtic Park, Patrick Roberts, John Guidetti and most recently Daniel Arzani have left the Etihad Stadium in their efforts to further develop.

Dedryck Boyata and Olivier Ntcham have also completed moves from the Sky Blues on a permanent basis and have gone on to thrive under Rodgers.

Zinchenko would have been a brilliant signing for the Hoops this summer, however, with him appearing to just wait for the final touches to be completed with Betis, it is unlikely he will be playing in the Scottish Premiership.

The Verdict:

Zinchenko could have been an inspired signing at Celtic and would certainly have helped to improve Rodgers’ squad immediately.

The 21-year-old is extremely versatile, as he can play in both midfield and as a full-back, meaning he would have been more than useful for the Bhoys.

However, it appears he will be heading to Andalusia to play in the green-and-white of Real Betis and not the hoops of Celtic.
