There’s plenty of worried faces and concerned punters in the Transfer Tavern today as news breaks that Carlton Cole’s potential move to Celtic is on the verge of breaking down.
Flicking through the pages of the Express this morning, our regulars have seen that the 31-year-old former England forward has suffered a calf injury in training.
The former Chelsea and West Ham United striker has been searching for a club since being released by The Hammers in the summer and has also been courted by clubs in the Middle-East.
Cole scored 68 goals in 293 games for West Ham, including a Championship play-off goal in their win over Blackpool in 2012.
Cole would add some much needed fire power to the Celtic attack as they try to claw back the top spot in the Scottish Premier League from current leaders Aberdeen. Only Leigh Griffiths has registered more than three goals for The Hoops this season and manager Ronny Deila will be keen to add a different dimension to his forward line with the inclusion of Cole.
Cole does have a long history of injury problems and could be a risk for the Scottish champions, he is however a proven goal scorer at the top level and many at the Transfer Tavern hope to see him succeed.
