The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are very excited about the arrival of Alvaro Morata, and are expecting him to make a big impact next season…
Cesc Fabregas, though, has remained decidedly more conservative in his estimations – and he has admitted that the Spaniard is under pressure to deliver.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website, Fabregas said: “He [Alvaro Morata] is a striker who has a lot of potential, the same as Michy Batshuayi, to improve. It’s up to them how far they want to go”.
He added: “If you are the main strikers for Chelsea, who want to fight for all of the competitions, you need to score a lot of goals. They will be under pressure”.
Certainly, particularly for Morata, the Spaniard has made a big step up by moving to Chelsea. Leading the line for the Blues is very different to being a rotational option for Real Madrid, and so he will certainly be under the microscope.
The same can be said for Michy Batshuayi, who struggled last season. The Belgian clearly has a lot of talent, though, and so like Morata, he’ll need to succeed.
Given the high-profile nature of Morata’s arrival, though, all eyes will be on the Spaniard during pre-season. Last season was a stellar one for him, having bagged 15 league goals, but he’ll need to better that feat next season. Fabregas appears confident, though, despite the fact that he is well aware of the challenges that the duo face.
