Gunners manager Arsène Wenger has called Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud to confirm his interest in star striker Marouane Chamakh, according to L’Equipe.
Les Girondins boss Laurent Blanc said on Monday that he was ready to let Moroccan International Chamakh move to a big club, but he hadn’t banked on Arsenal moving in so quickly to take the striker to the Premier League.
Having blocked a move to Sunderland or “any club inferior to Bordeaux’s level,” Blanc will be happy to let Chamakh move to the London club.
Triaud told L’Equipe: “Wenger called me. He said he has a list of strikers that he’s interested in, and Marouane is on it.”
Officially, Bordeaux want €15 million for the French-Moroccan player, while Arsenal are only prepared to put €6 million on the table to buy out the last year of his contract and lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Triaud fears that an already complicated affair could become a real saga.
Have the hacks at L’Equipe been on the sauce again or is there some truth in this story? Could Chamakh be the man to replace Adebayor at the Emirates? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
