The Daily Mirror are reporting that Marouane Chamakh will make a decision about his future and let the clubs most interested in him, Arsenal and Liverpool, know where he’s going by the end of the month. Chamakh, whose contract expires at the end of the season, could sign pre-contracts with either of the English giants but is still weighing up his options.
Arsenal were the first English club said to be interested in him as injury to Robin van Persie combined with Arsene Wenger’s familiarity with the French leagues allowed Arsenal to spot the Morrocan’s ability. But more recently Liverpool entered the race for Chamakh as injuries to Fernando Torres led them to search for a new striker. Chamakh caused disappointment by stating that he’ll stay at current club Bordeaux until the end of the season but after that he fully intends to move away. Chamakh said
“I will not extend my Bordeaux contract, and I will know more about where I am going this weekend, when I have talked to my advisors. I believe that I must decide the club that I am going to, and that things must be explained quickly.”
26-year-old Chamakh has scored 7 goals in 25 games for Bordeaux so far this season but it was his 22 goal haul last season that first caught the eye of the big teams.
