Champions League winner leading the race to become Aston Villa manager

Di MatteoThe Aston Villa fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing news regarding their managerial situation.

The Birmingham Mail is reporting that a new favourite has leapt to the front of the pecking order as to who will manage the club next season.

Roberto Di Matteo has seen his odds with the bookmakers tumble after some major money was put on the Italian to replace Remi Garde as the manager next season.

For weeks there has been talk of Nigel Pearson taking the reigns at Villa Park, but with Di Matteo now favourite and his own odds shortening it appears as though the former Leicester boss has fallen down the list of potential replacements.

Di Matteo was most recently in charge of Bundesliga title side Schalke and has a wealth of experience which includes a Champions League winners medal won during his time in charge at Chelsea.

The Aston Villa fans in The Tavern are delighted the club are linked with Di Matteo and are hopeful that a new manager can be appointed within the next couple of weeks, so that plenty of planning can go into next season’s assault on the Championship.
