Queens Park Rangers fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are slowly adapting to life in the Championship but when Harry Redknapp is the manager, your club is unlikely to be out of the media spotlight for long.
Today’s edition of The Express suggests that Redknapp has now failed in his latest high profile attempt to raid former club Tottenham for midfielder Scott Parker but that he still retains some hope of landing England international forward Jermain Defoe.
Parker’s time at White Hart Lane looks set to end after the arrival of Brazilian international Paulinho in a £17 million deal from Corinthians this summer and the 32-year-old has also been linked with a move to his former club West Ham United.
But the Championship side are the only side prepared to meet Parker’s wage demands and reports confirm today that the Loftus Road outfit saw a bid reject for the defensive midfielder with Spurs looking for around £2/3m for the former Charlton Athletic man.
Redknapp has also confirmed that he is trying to sign Jermain Defoe from Spurs, but the likelihood of any transfer coming together currently looks unlikely.
He said: “I’d love to have Jermain. We made an enquiry but at the moment he’s not available. We’re nowhere near anything. There is a small chance of it happening.”
Redknapp further admitted his interest in Colombian striker Duvan Zapata who was close to joining West Ham United earlier in the transfer window, but the ex-Spurs confessed “He may be going elsewhere”.
