There are a few raised eyebrows in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
The Mirror report that Blackpool starlet Thomas Ince has been offered a new contract by the Championship club as they try to warn off potential Premier League suitors.
The 21-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current season but the Tangerines still hope that he will extend his stay at Bloomfield Road.
Ince will be in a position to sign a pre-contract agreement with potential new sides next month and despite ambitious chairman Karl Oyston wanting to keep hold of the attacker, he understands that the England Under-21 international will move on in the future.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: “We have offered Tom a new contract. It’s very fluid, there’s nothing definite and I certainly shall not start speculating. Who knows what will happen, but it’s an interesting situation.
“It’s down to Tom and his father, whether we choose to sell him or keep until the end of his contract.”
Ince has been strongly linked with moves to Newcastle United and Tottenham in the tavern while there is also reported interest from Dutch champions Ajax who have already made contact with the Championship outfit.
Blackpool would be reluctant to let him move abroad as they would only be due compensation but Oyston is confident that an English side will make an offer for the talented youngster in January.
He added: “We get compensation if he goes abroad, but I think it’s more likely a domestic club will make an offer in January.”
