With all the hype surrounding Rafael Benitez’s first return to Anfield since his departure in 2010, it is easy to forget that another certain Spaniard will be making an emotional return.
Fernando Torres served Liverpool with distinction from the summer of 2007 to January 2011, before upsetting the Anfield faithful and completing a £50 million move to rivals Chelsea.
What has happened since is will go down as one of football’s biggest ever mysterys, as the man who scored an incredible 81 goals in 142 games for the Reds, has looked a pale shadow of his former self the moment he pulled on a blue shirt.
His goal record for Chelsea is distinctly worse, with a total of 32 in 123 – (although 20 have come this season in all competitions) but more concerning has been his overall performance levels.
He has taken his fair share of stick since completing his move to Stamford Bridge, and whilst you can’t help but feel sorry for Torres on some occasions – like they say ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’
So to get you in the mood for what is sure to come his way at Anfield today, here is a picture that sums up Torres’ time at Stamford Bridge.
