It must be John Cross’ day off from the Daily Mirror, as he is back in the Football Transfer Tavern for the third time today and this time he has news for Chelsea and Newcastle United fans.
John tells the punters to meet him over by the snooker table and, after he pops out to make a quick phonecall, he joins them.
While chalking up his cue, John lets us know that Newcastle’s transfer trio (so hard not to call them something more comical!) of Joe Kinnear, Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley have contacted Chelsea over taking former striker Demba Ba back on loan.
The former West Ham United striker hasn’t been in Chelsea’s most recent matchday squads and following the arrival of Samuel Eto’o, Ba knows his days at Stamford Bridge are numbered.
According to John, Ba would welcome the move back to St. James’ Park but a potential stumbling block (what a cliché) is the fact that Chelsea, for some reason, want £3 million for the loan deal.
The potential homecoming for Ba has perked up the Newcastle fans in the tavern, for the time being anyway, and they’ve just gone over to the jukebox and put on Paul Gascoigne singing ‘Fog on the Tyne’!
You best get out of here before they start blaring out ‘Lets get ready to rhumble’ by PJ and Duncan!
Will Demba Ba recapture some of his old form by moving back to Newcastle on loan? Let us know your thoughts below.
