Chelsea fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern have put down their pints and have turned their full attention to Hannah Duncan of Metro who has some news on the future of their club captain.
John Terry has endured arguably the most difficult season of his career at Stamford Bridge, and is no longer a first team regular under Rafael Benitez.
The 32-year-old – who has admitted he is open to an England return – has just one year left on his contract with the Blues and is yet to open talks on an extension.
This has led to speculation over his future, and has led to Terry admitting if he was to leave the club it would not be for another English side.
“I’d love to stay. I don’t want to talk out of turn, but I’d love to stay at Chelsea,” Terry explained.
“If that’s not the case, I have got another year left which I will honour and respect, regardless if it’s a yes or a no.
“Naturally it would be disappointing, but at the same time you understand that you can’t be around forever. Where I would go after that it certainly wouldn’t be in England. I couldn’t do that to Chelsea or the fans. That’s just not me.”
With Frank Lampard looking likely to depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, Terry is adamant he won’t be following his friend out of the Stamford Bridge exit doors just yet.
