The removal men have just arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern to take down the 72-inch plasma screen that has been entertaining punters during the recent transfer window.
While punters look on with depressed looks, they are distracted following the arrival of Ben Jefferson from The Express who brings interesting reports for the few Chelsea fans sat around the bar.
Jefferson explains that he has been speaking to Blues defender David Luiz who has admitted that Barcelona attempted to lure him to the Camp Nou before the transfer window closed on Monday.
The La Liga champions are on the lookout for a top quality central defender as they seek a long-term replacement for Carles Puyol and had reportedly outlined the explosive Brazilian defender as their main transfer target.
However, this time, Luiz decided to remain at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho saying it was a better option for all parties.
He said: “There was an official proposal [from Barcelona], but I opted for Chelsea. It was better for me and better for everyone.”
“I am happy to be at a big club and be in the national team representing my country.”
Given Barcelona’s spending power, many in the tavern expect a renewed bid as they try to land the 26-year-old in January and again next summer with Luiz’s future appearing uncertain with Mourinho’s concerns over his defensive capabilities.
Does Luiz have a long-term future under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge or will more speculation surround him in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
