Chelsea ace targeted by Chinese side; January move unlikely (not Oscar)

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have not stopped talking about Oscar’s Chelsea future, with a move to China reportedly on the way…

The move sent shockwaves around the Tavern earlier in the week, with the out-of-form Brazilian seemingly destined to become one of the world’s highest paid players – despite struggling for the last year or 2.

Chinese football has been looking to flex its muscles for years, with some of Europe’s best players taking the plunge and moving to the country – and whilst Oscar’s deal looks set in stone, he might not be the only Chelsea star to make the move.

According to the Daily Mail, Cesc Fabregas could be the latest Chelsea man to move to China – with Guangzhou Evergrande reportedly keeping tabs on the Spanish midfielder.

They note that Chelsea, whilst they would not want to sell him in January, could be tempted with an offer of over £40 million for the Spaniard – with the vast riches available in Chinese football possibly enough to tempt Fabregas himself to make the move.

The deal appears remarkably similar to that of Oscar, in that Chelsea do not want to sell – but if an offer of significant value comes in, it could be impossible to turn down.

Our landlord, though, thinks that a deal for Fabregas is far less likely, especially considering the role that he is playing in the Chelsea first team as of late. After losing his place earlier in the season, Fabregas has gotten a decent run of games in recent weeks – with Conte beginning to trust the Spaniard.

Nevertheless, should a side like Guangzhou Evergrande come in with a significant offer – the Blues might find it hard to turn it down.

Fabregas has impressed in recent weeks, having developed into the fantastic midfield partner to N’Golo Kante. An impressive goal against West Brom in midweek proved that Fabregas has a role to play at Chelsea going forward – and Conte will undoubtedly utilise the Spaniard more going forward.
