Michy Batshuayi’s name was sung loud and proud around the Transfer Tavern over the course of the weekend. The Belgian was Chelsea’s hero against Watford, popping up with two crucial goals against the Hornets. A loss would have put Chelsea in a very bad position in the Premier League, and so the 24-year-old came to form at the perfect time.
It has been a tough year or so for the Belgian since moving to Stamford Bridge, and a few goals are just what he needs at the moment to kick on and impress.
Gary Cahill has since come out and spoken about the forward’ s timely return to form, and he has been very complimentary of his teammate. Speaking via the official Chelsea website, he said: “I’m sure he has things to improve but as a player that’s exactly how you respond. He’s come on and changed the game for us. He scored two goals and arguably won us the game”.
“When you have a little sticky patch, to come on and do that is the best way to respond, fantastic”, he added.
Batshuayi certainly came on and changed the game, and after replacing Alvaro Morata, that is exactly what Antonio Conte wanted from his second-choice forward. In truth, he couldn’t have done much more, and so he deserves all the credit that he is getting.
With another chance likely to come on Wednesday against Everton, Batshuayi could finally be reaching the level that the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been hoping for.
Batshuayi has finally come good, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
He needs to repeat that form against Everton, though, or it could be back to square one.
At least the players are on side, though.
