Despite claiming that he is set on staying at Chelsea no matter who arrives in the summer, we at the Football Transfer Tavern feel that Fox Sports could be right when they link Fernando Torres with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The forward has finally found some form this season yet has still been subject to jokes and rather a lot of harsh criticism and never looks totally happy or comfortable in a Chelsea shirt. Even the appointment of interim manager Rafael Benitez has not reinvigorated the forward and given the fact that a new striker will certainly be arriving in the summer, Torres is certainly not guaranteed a place in the line up next season.
Now it seems that he is being linked with a move to Italian side Fiorentina who are keen on the player yet have more than a passing concern over the wages and the cost of acquiring Torres with technical director Eduardo Macia claiming: “If these big names are linked to Fiorentina, it means that we are considered a great team. But some players right now are outside of the parameters of Italian football, especially in regard to wages.”
Torres has also been linked with a return to former side Atletico Madrid who are on course to make the Champions League next season.
