Chelsea agree deal to complete first summer signing

Diego CostaThere’s a lot of relieved Chelsea fans sat in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.

This comes after the Daily Star revealed that a £32 million deal for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa was finally being agreed with the amount enough to trigger a release clause.

It’s been a long time coming with rumours of Chelsea’s interest lasting for months but it at last seems that Jose Mourinho has got his main transfer target.

The bid means that Costa is now free to discuss personal terms with the West London club but it’s believed that the Spaniard is keen on the moving, meaning there shouldn’t be any further hold ups.

Chelsea are believed to have readied a package that includes a £150,000 per week pay cheque  – more than treble what he is believed to earn in Spain.

Mourinho has bemoaned his striking options all season publicly slating each and every one of his strikers at one point or another.

It now looks like Fernando Torres and Demba Ba could be heading for the exit with Samuel Eto’o’s future at the club also still less than certain.

It had been thought that any potential deal for Costa could involve Torres going in the other direction with the former Atletico player believed to be keen on the reintroduction.

But it looks like the Blues have decided on a simple cash deal to try and ensure that the deal is done rather more swiftly so their man is tied up before the World Cup.

Chelsea fans. Who would you boot out of the exit door the quickest? Torres, Ba, Lukaku or Eto’o? Let us know your thoughts below.
