Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are set to welcome a former player back to Stamford Bridge in a move that has surprised everybody.
According to the Daily Mail, the West London club have agreed a deal to bring Portuguese midfielder Tiago back to the club.
The 33-year-old was influential in an over-achieving Atletico Madrid side this season having won the La Liga title and lost in the final of the Champions League.
Now sides all around Europe are looking to cherry pick the Spanish sides’ riches and Chelsea are doing their best to grab the best of the bunch.
They have already secured Diego Costa on a permanent transfer and the free signing of Tiago will no doubt help the striker adjust to London life.
Three’s a crowd, but Jose Mourinho has also enquired about left back Filipe Luis and could make it a hat-trick of Atletico signings if he has his way.
But Atletico aren’t the only club that Mourinho is looking to raid with Raphael Varane a big target of Chelsea’s.
Mourinho signed Varane for Real Madrid during his tenure and is now looking for a reunion with the French youngster who he descibed as the best young defender in the world.
