Chelsea and Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern reacted positively to Real Madrid’s transfer ban yesterday, raising their glasses in celebration, but the mood has quickly be wiped from their smug faces.
Whilst they believed it meant Eden Hazard and David De Gea would be staying with their respective sides for the long-term, The Sun suggests otherwise and claims Real Madrid will embark on a mammoth £250m spending-spree in January.
Los Blancos were hit with the ban by FIFA yesterday, which states they cannot register players in the next two transfer windows- this summer and January 2017, to be precise.
Whilst they can still sign big-names, like Barcelona did by bringing in Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal, new signings will not be able to feature for a year. As such, a number of high-profile Real Madrid transfers have been ruled out.
However, the ban does not come into effect immediately and the Spanish giants can still sign players this month- which they’re likely to do in order to prepare for two windows without new faces.
Reports state Zinedine Zidane’s side will go all out, with Hazard, De Gea, Paul Pogba, Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero, John Stones and Harry Kane on their short-list.
Our landlord believes it’s only a matter of time until Real blow the transfer window wide open with a mammoth swoop for one of these stars and that Premier League sides should be trembling with nerves.
