Chelsea and Man Utd have had very different summer transfer windows, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern couldn’t be more divided…
Man Utd have invested heavily on a number of players, with most supporters pretty happy with Jose Mourinho’s business so far. Chelsea, meanwhile, have spent money but still lack enough quality in depth to really compete in the new season – with the Blues fans in the Transfer Tavern fearing the worst.
Despite the differences between the clubs this summer, it appears as though there is at least one target that they share: Sergi Roberto. According to Diario Gol, both clubs – alongside Man City – have contacted the player regarding a potential move this summer, and significantly, Roberto is said to have listened to what each party is offering.
Contextually, Roberto is facing an uncertain future as he has yet to sign a new contract and there are also reportedly question marks over his future in the Barcelona first team. All in all, his future is certainly under the microscope at present.
Clearly, the Premier League clubs are looking to take advantage of his situation, and at present, the conclusion to this tale appears unclear.
He would certainly be a good option, given his versatility and reliability, and another battle between Chelsea and Man Utd would certainly be interesting as we near the start of the Premier League season.
Sergi Roberto has enjoyed a very good spell at Barcelona, but that does not guarantee him a starting spot going forward.
At both Chelsea and Man Utd, meanwhile, he likely would be a regular – with Victor Moses and Antonio Valencia both weak points in each respective team.
Still, Barcelona want to keep him, and in an ideal world Roberto would likely want to stay, and so each club may have to wait and see how talks with his own club progress before sealing a deal.
