Manchester City have been the Premier League’s biggest spenders again this summer and Pep Guardiola has made a real statement after spending real money rebuilding his new-look City squad.
Reinforcements were wholly necessary at the Etihad and in doing so, the Citizens fans lining the bar here in the pub are delighted to see the squad given a new-look feel.
Meanwhile down at Stamford Bridge, it’s also been a busy few weeks for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who has brought in the likes of Alvaro Morata as he looks to keep the Premier League title at the Bridge.
Of course, both teams will be chasing the title this time around but there’s one player that won’t be joing up with either manager as they battle for the crown.
The man in question? Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng, who has decided his future remains in Germany, despite being linked with a move away earlier in the window.
“It is true that I spoke to Borussia Dortmund before I went on vacation,” he said. “I told them my thoughts, that I was maybe ready to try something different. It was open and fair talks with Michael Zorc [Dortmund director of football] and Hans-Joachin Watzke [Dortmund CEO],” Aubameyang told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, as reported on Sky Sports News.
“But none of the clubs that wanted me could make it happen. So I’ll stay here at Borussia Dortmund. I like staying here very much, as I feel at home in Dortmund,” he added.
Aubameyang has been one of the brightest players in world football for the past couple of years but with both Chelsea and Manchester City spending big already in the transfer window already, a move would have been tough.
There’s every hope that the Gabonese international will move to the Premier League one day but this summer, it’s not going to happen.
He will have another good season in Germany.
