There are a few raised eyebrows at the latest transfer speculation from talkSPORT which has just arrived into the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
They suggest that Porto centre back Nicolas Otamendi has opened the door to a Premier League transfer by expressing his belief that a switch would not harm of chances of playing for Argentina at the World Cup next summer.
This will have encouraged both Chelsea and Manchester City who have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old as Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini both search for defensive reinforcements during the winter window.
The Argentina international defender, who is in his fourth season at Porto, is also reportedly considering interest from French money-bags outfit Monaco and he could follow former team-mates James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho to the Principality next month.
Otamendi insists that he is focused on his career with Porto, but concedes that he would have to consider any interesting offer that arrive over the coming weeks.
He told Portuguese newspaper Record: “My mind is at Porto and continuing to play here. I want to do my job to the best of my ability. Porto draws attention around the world and these rumours still exist.
“But I’m glad they speak well of me, that means I do things well. If an opportunity presents itself, I’ll think. I will continue to help Porto.
“I do not think changing clubs in January would harm me in the context of the World Cup. I always want to do my best, wherever I play.”
