Despite Chelsea being just above the relegation zone, and Manchester City flying high on maximum points after a sensational start to the season, the two clubs look like they will be competing in other ways come January, should Mourinho’s side not pick up their form from last term.
With both sides notoriously having a solid back four, it is Chelsea who this year could really do with reinforcements – however it appears that both clubs will be launching bids for the same exciting defensive prospect in the early parts of 2016.
Spanish publication Fichajes are reporting both the English clubs will battle it out with big spenders Real Madrid, over the signature of current Valencia man Jose Gaya.
The defender, who is only 20, is thought to have been monitored by the Premier League champions over the summer but no deal ever materialised.
