Chelsea are reportedly confident that £70,000-per-week defender will be at the club next season

Cesar Azpilicueta has really become a fan favourite amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern…

Undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most consistent players, Azpilicueta has been absolutely crucial for Chelsea since moving to the club in 2012, quickly establishing himself as a key member of the Blues’ first team.

Under Antonio Conte, he has shifted into a more central role and as he did at left-back and right-back – the Spaniard has slotted in perfectly. One of Chelsea’s best players over the course of the title-winning campaign under the Italian, he is completely undroppable at this point.

It has come as a huge boost for the Chelsea fans in the pub, then, that the Daily Mail are reporting that the Blues are confident that Azpilicueta will be at Chelsea next season. His fine performances are inevitably going to generate interest, but Chelsea reportedly feel as though he is happy at the club and in London, with Antonio Conte assumingly already preparing for next season with the Spaniard involved.

Spanish publication Sport reported recently that Barcelona are interested in a move for Azpilicueta, but a successful move from the Catalan giants is looking unlikely.

Regardless of the business that Chelsea conduct this summer, there is no doubting that Azpilicueta will play a key role next season. Able to play across the defence, Conte will always look to fit him in, be it out wide or, indeed, in a more central role. With John Terry set to leave the club this summer, there is certainly an opening for Azpilicueta to remain as a central defender.

The Chelsea fans in the pub think that Azpilicueta, who reportedly earns £70,000-per-week, has been better than ever this season.
