The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for young midfielder Charly Musonda…
The young Belgian was the star of the show during a prolonged tenure within the Chelsea developmental system, whilst his first season on loan with Real Betis was a storming success too. Since then, he has gone off the boil somewhat, but that hasn’t dented the Chelsea fan’s excitement – with many hoping that he will stay at the club for a long time.
However, it seems as though Chelsea could be open to securing a deal for the Belgian – at least according to Foot Mercato. It is noted by Foot Mercato that Chelsea had been open to including Musonda in a deal for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, but the Blues are now said to have taken a different tact. Indeed, Foot Mercato are reporting that Chelsea are open to letting Musonda go for below their €20 million asking price, provided that a buy-back option is included in any prospective deal.
Whilst Musonda clearly has a big future, the Chelsea fans in the pub can certainly see the logic in this deal. A move away could give him the encouragement that he needs to really develop, whilst a buy-back fee may allow Chelsea to bring him back when he is ready.
Of course, the Blues have been stung several times in the past by not including such an option – with players including Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Bertrand all flourishing following moves away from the club. It seems that Conte is not willing to risk the same fate with Musonda.
