The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern still have very high hopes for Kurt Zouma…
The Frenchman was a key part of proceedings for the Blues under previous managership, with Jose Mourinho, in particular, making real use of him.
Though still a teenager when he burst onto the scene, Zouma looked far beyond his years on the pitch, displaying experience, leadership and defensive grit in an impressive Chelsea first team.
However, under Antonio Conte, his game time has reduced drastically. An injury saw him miss over a year of action, but whilst he was available for several months towards the end of the 2016/17 season, the Italian manager often opted to leave the Frenchman on the bench.
This has, seemingly, alerted a host of clubs, with France Football reporting that there is a queue forming for the Frenchman. The latest side to join the race is said to be Nice, with Inter Milan, Marseille and Valencia also reportedly in the race – with Chelsea apparently open to securing a loan for the defender.
Indeed, whilst many supporters want to see Zouma become a regular feature once again next season, a loan might be the best course of action. Chelsea are likely to spend big defensively this summer, whilst Nathan Ake and Andreas Christensen are also going to be looking to become regulars for the Blues.
Certainly, Antonio Conte has some big decisions to make, but our landlord thinks that a loan for Zouma might make sense.
