The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in a constant state of expectation with regards to Michy Batshuayi this season, but it would appear as though they may not get a chance to see what he can do in a blue shirt…
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are ready to secure a deal for the Belgian this summer, on the condition that he is sold on permanently. The Blues, of course, spent a whopping £33 million on him last summer – and so West Ham, who are reportedly keen, will likely be forced to get close to that number for Chelsea to agree to a move.
It has certainly been a disappointing year in London for Batshuayi, with the striker given very few opportunities under Antonio Conte. Owing to a lack of faith in the striker and the consistently impressive form of Diego Costa, Batshuayi has had to settle for a bit-part role, often from the bench, and in doing so he has rarely impressed.
That being said, his fine form whilst in France highlighted that he is a top quality player, and if West Ham were to sign him, it would certainly be considered a coup for the club. The Hammers have, of course, struggled this season – but with Slaven Bilic set to stay with the club this summer, he will likely be looking for a few big signings to turn the fortunes of his side around.
Our landlord thinks that a sale definitely makes sense from Chelsea’s perspective.
