The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty pessimistic right now…
The Blues lost against Arsenal on Sunday, and whilst the tie was decided on penalties, Antonio Conte’s side really struggled to make an impact during the game – with the Italian’s lack of squad depth becoming adamantly clear.
Clearly, then, at least two or three new signings are needed before the end of the season – especially when you consider the return of the Champions League – with a lack of depth and quality within Conte’s current side.
A big name or two would certainly appease the fans in the Transfer Tavern and according to the Express, Chelsea are plotting to bring in a player that would certainly calm fears amongst fans. The Express reports that Chelsea have emerged as ‘serious contenders’ for the signature of Gareth Bale this summer, with the Welshman potentially available this summer.
Of course, Bale has struggled for fitness over the last few years, and the ever-revolving door at Real Madrid stands still for nobody.
The Welshman may well have had a mixed recent spell, but he still brings unparalleled quality, and clearly Conte would be glad to have him. Any deal, though, remains some way off.
Whilst Bale may have lost some of his star power in recent years, there is no doubting just how good he is on his day.
He would come to the Premier League and likely become the best player in the league once again – as he was prior to moving to Spain – and that is not something to ignore.
However, his recent injury record should be noted by the Blues, and that must be considered when debating whether to make a move.
