Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United ready to fight for quality defender

MarquinhosA scuffle has broken out in the Transfer Tavern today between rival Premier League supporters, amidst reports of a three-way tussle for a quality defender.

The Daily Star states Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are set to battle-it-out for the services of Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated Brazilian international Marquinhos.

21-year-old Marquinhos is renowned as one of the best young defenders in world football but he finds regular action difficult to come by in Paris, as he competes with compatriots David Luiz and Thiago Silva for a first-team spot.

32 appearances this season may seem like a reasonable haul for the young defender but a wealth of those have come from the bench and Marquinhos is often overlooked in favour of his seniors for bigger matches.

As such, Marquinhos has voiced his anger over a lack of opportunities and the fact he’s being forced to play out of position. With the Brazilian clearly unhappy, it increases the chances of  high-profile move occuring this summer.

Whilst Arsenal are the newest English club to express interest in the defender, they may have an advantage in negotiations as the Gunners will be able to offer Champions League football- whereas Manchester United will struggle to present that chance, whilst Chelsea are set to be absent from European competitions completely next season.
