Arsenal and Chelsea fans are making the atmosphere in the Football Transfer Tavern feel very tense as they are both chasing after a young starlet from West Ham United.
According to The Express, both London clubs are set to battle it out to capture the Hammers’ 15-year-old centre back Reece Oxford.
The young defender recently captained England at the Nordic Under-17 Tournament in Denmark during the summer and has also impressed for the Hammers’ Under-21 side during their 2-0 win over Sunderland, leaving him as the hot topic in the tavern.
Within the terraces at Upton Park, Oxford has been nicknamed ‘the next Rio Ferdinand’ and the East London club are looking to keep him there by proposing a new deal but the Gunners are looking to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
With Arsene Wenger’s passion to develop young talent being well known, it is no surprise he has kept tabs on Oxford for a long period of time with Chelsea only recently jumping on the bandwagon.
Despite the fact that punters are showing a lot of admiration by the bar for Oxford, many hope he stays at West Ham for his development alone.
Our regulars have seen it time and time again where a young hot prospect gets lost within the youth ranks at one of the Premier League’s bigger fish. Just look at the example of John Bostock and Tottenham!
