Chelsea have been given first option to sign Piazon when he turns 18, in accordance with FIFA law. The player’s club Sao Paulo, have already agreed a deal with the Blues and the omens look good for Roman Abramovich and Carlo Ancellotti.
Juventus were in line to sign the 17 year old, and it looked like they were on the verge of doing so just 2 months ago. Piazon was in Italy for a week’s trial with the Turn based club, but it would seem that they have missed the opportunity to pick up what looks like an absolute marvel. The deal could cost anywhere between £5 – 8 million, but it shows a real intent from Chelsea to invest in younger talent.
Piazon is currently playing for Brazil in the South American Under-17 Championships, and scored in a 4-3 win over Venezuela on Sunday. For those of you who don’t know who Piazon is (and let’s face it…that can’t be many) the good folks at Youtube have posted a video of the player and his considerable talents! Check it out here!
I must warn you, it starts with a sickening montage of the young player, with what appears to be holiday snaps/facebook profile pics, mixed in with actual shots of him playing football. Eventually you’ll see some footage of him scoring for Sao Paolo’s youth team. Worth a look, because he is very…very…good!
If Chelsea sign the young man, it will no doubt be an exciting proposition for fans of the club, and for fans of Premiership football in general. With all the talk of the ‘real Kaka’ that’s been floating around the internet the last couple of days, it would be nice to see Chelsea bluff us all by signing a younger model.
£8 million seems quite alot for an 18 year old, who no-one has really seen play yet, but if it turns out that Piazon is as good as everyone says he is, it could turn out to be the biggest bargain since the British ‘bought’ America for a handful of trade goods and some decent blankets.
