Chelsea believe that 18-year-old starlet can make it at Stamford Bridge – report

Whilst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left disappointed by their side’s first team’s recent form, the same cannot be said of the Blues’ developmental teams.

Chelsea’s developmental system has been a hotbed of incredible talent over the last few years, and whilst the first team hasn’t been the main benefactor, that doesn’t mean that the quality isn’t there.

This season, a few youngsters have been able to get their names out there a bit more, with Kyle Scott featuring on the bench earlier in the season and Callum Hudson-Odoi given occasional minutes by the Chelsea boss.

However, one player that is less well known is young Martin Taylor-Crossdale. He has been impressing for the youth ranks this season, having already bagged 20 goals.

That said, whilst most fans might not know who he is, it appears as though Chelsea have very high hopes for him.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues view him as having the potential to break into their first team in the future, despite the fact that he’s yet to get a chance in the first team.

Significantly, he’s apparently attracting interest from the lower leagues, and so Chelsea may have to make a decision his chances sooner, rather than later – with his contract expiring next summer.

It’s important that Chelsea view him as having the potential to succeed, as the Blues have so many players within their various developmental ranks, and so those with a genuine chance of success at Stamford Bridge are few and far between.

Antonio Conte has been keen to give a number of youngsters an opportunity in the first team this season, albeit rarely have they been given a chance from the start.

On the surface, it doesn’t seem like Taylor-Crossdale will get a chance before the season is out, but this news could force Antonio Conte’s hand.

Landlord’s Verdict

Chelsea’s academy is full of talent, and Martin Taylor-Crossdale certainly falls into the upper echelon.

He’s a proven goalscorer, and whilst he’s perhaps not the most technically gifted player, he knows exactly where the net is.

Chelsea have their struggles in-front of goal, and so there is an opening for him at Chelsea, but a major offensive signing this summer could change that.

The next year or two will be crucial for him. Perhaps a loan to the interested clubs could be the best move for him.
