Chelsea bid to sign £48m-rated Spanish midfielder fizzles out, player happy at current club

kokeNew Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been dealt a major blow in the transfer market before he has even stepped foot in West London, much to the displeasure of the Blues supporters here in the Transfer Tavern.

The catastrophic news comes from Spain, where Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has announced that he has no intention of leaving the club during the summer, stating his happiness at playing in the capital.

Chelsea were hopeful of snaring the 24-year-old attacking midfielder this summer and were aware of the player’s £48 million release clause in his contract, although according to the London Evening Standard the deal now looks dead.

Conte will arrive at Stamford Bridge following Euro 2016, where he will be in charge of Italy for the last time and his immediate task at the Blues will be to reinstall some confidence into a squad which has just finished 10th in the Premier League.

Chelsea fans, would you have liked to see Koke in a Chelsea shirt? Who should be targeted for that role now? How will Antonio Conte get on in his first season with the club?
