Chelsea fans are sitting up and taking note here in the Football Transfer Tavern with the latest bit of gossip coming from Metro raising a few eyebrows.
The publication seems to think that the Blues will be forced to look elsewhere for their striking options this winter, with number one target Radamel Falcao pledging his future to Ligue 1 side Monaco – at least for now.
The Colombian forward claimed: “I am very happy at Monaco and my wife is happy to live here. There is no problem with the coach, the doctors or the team.”
As one of our punters notes, that of course places a huge amount of pressure on Jose Mourinho to find another forward, with the current three forwards at his disposal failing to do the business – and that is putting it kindly.
Samuel Eto’o has missed chance after chance, Demba Ba is not even trusted enough to start a game, and Fernando Torres is well, Fernando Torres!
A huge amount of names have been bandied around for Chelsea, the latest being former Real Madrid man Gonzalo Higuain, and as our landlord points out, Mourinho knows the Napoli man very well indeed.
Quite if Napoli are going to be willing to sell so soon remains to be seen, but they will not be landing Falcao any time soon.
Who will Chelsea turn to now? Porto’s Jackson Martinez perhaps? Let us know your thoughts below.
