Chelsea have reportedly opened the door for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to leave the club, via RMC (Get French Football News).
After arriving from Monaco for £40m in 2017, the 25-year-old has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and spent the entirety of last season on loan at AC Milan, where he made 31 league appearances for the Italians, scoring once.
He was sent off once in 2017/18 and made two errors leading to goals, signs of his struggles in English football’s top flight.
Bakayoko returned to his parent club at the beginning of the summer and was given an opportunity to prove himself to manager Frank Lampard during pre-season.
He failed to do so, however, and has been left out of Lampard’s matchday squad for the Blues’ opening three Premier League matches against Manchester United, Leicester and Norwich.
According to RMC, Monaco are interested in bringing Bakayoko back to Ligue 1 on loan, as they look to obtain a new central midfielder before next Monday’s transfer deadline.
The Blues were keen on loaning Bakayoko out to a side playing in Europe next term so that they could hopefully offload him for maximum value next summer, but with limited interest being shown in the midfielder, are now thought to be open to the idea of him rejoining his former side on a season-long loan.
Bakayoko desperately needs a change of scenery after becoming exiled at Chelsea. It’s evident that the 25-year-old has no future in west London, making a move away from Stamford Bridge a necessity this week.
The Frenchman knows Monaco inside out having made over 60 appearances for the club between 2014-2017, so would be in familiar surroundings at the Stade Louis II Stadium. Hopefully, if he does make the switch to the French Riviera, he is able to regain some confidence and start to get his career heading in the right direction after a forgettable spell in England.
