Chelsea are set to offer striker Michy Batshuayi to Napoli on a season-long loan deal, according to Italian journalist Dario Sarnataro (via Sports Mole).
The Belgium international hasn’t featured under Frank Lampard in Chelsea’s opening three Premier League fixtures against Manchester United, Leicester and Norwich, with the 41-year-old preferring either Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud up front so far.
It would appear that if he did remain in west London, he would have his work cut out breaking into the first-team fold regularly, making a loan move away from the club a potentially attractive proposition.
Batshuayi spent the first-half of last season on loan at Valencia, but endured a miserable time in Spain having found the net just once in 15 La Liga appearances.
The 25-year-old was recalled by Chelsea early and then sent back out on loan to Crystal Palace, and enjoyed a slightly more productive spell in south London after scoring six goals in 13 games for the Eagles (all competitions).
Batshuayi was believed to be keen on fighting for his place in the Chelsea squad this season, but according to journalist Dario Sarnataro, who spoke to Italian radio station Radio Marte, the front man will be offered to Champions League outfit Napoli in a loan deal.
It is understood that Chelsea will still pay a portion of Batshuayi’s wages in Italy, with the Blues also set to include an option to buy the forward next summer in any proposed deal with the Serie A titans.
Regular first-team action seems a million miles away for Batshuayi at Chelsea, making a loan move away before Monday’s deadline a necessity for the Belgian.
Napoli will once again be playing in the Champions League this term, so it would be a fantastic club to go to showcase his talents on the main stage. The Naples outfit will also probably be contenders for the league title in Italy after finishing second last season, meaning Batshuayi could enjoy a successful season if he made the switch to the San Paolo Stadium.
