There’s a big season ahead for defending Premier League title winners Chelsea and manager Antonio Conte.
The pressure is on the Italian to continue his good work at Stamford Bridge by regaining the title and making a real good go of things in Chelsea’s European campaign too.
But it’s going to be a tough division this year and with Manchester City spending heavily, there’s thought that the Blues won’t saunter to the title quite as easily this time around.
Conte has made some cracking signings over the past few weeks but of course, he had bags of talent already on the books at Stamford Bridge which helped him to the title last season.
One of those was ever-present winger Eden Hazard, who always seems to make an impact in this Chelsea team, even on an off day.
And former Juventus boss Conte has been quick to dismiss any talk linking the Belgian international with a move away from the Bridge to Barcelona, saying he very much remains a part of first-team affairs in London.
“We are trying to buy the players, not to sell them,” Conte told Sky Sports News, when asked about Hazard moving to Barcelona. “Otherwise the number is always less and we are in trouble.
I think these are rumours and Eden is very happy to stay with us, to play with Chelsea and to start the new season. To recover [from] his injury and to start the season with us. I think so,” he added.
Despite the Chelsea fans here in the pub being confident the title should be within reach this campaign, keeping hold of Hazard should definitely be a transfer priority this campaign.
Conte simply must keep hold of Hazard at Stamford Bridge. There’s few players in the Premier League that can have such a decisive impact as he can on games and he’s proved time and time again that he’s one of the best around.
Chelsea need him in their ranks and would be foolish to sell, whatever the price.
