Chelsea boss given permission to land January reinforcements

Fernando TorresChelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are somewhat in recovery after watching their side’s toothless display at Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Blues missed a chance to keep the pressure on league leaders Arsenal as they fell 2-0 to the Magpies in what Mourinho described as a ‘really bad performance’.

Now today’s copy of the Mail Online suggests that Mourinho has been given permission to recruit a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window to improve Chelsea’s title chances.

The former Real Madrid boss is growing increasingly frustrated with his current strikeforce with first choice duo Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o only finding the net once each.

Elsewhere, his other choice, Demba Ba has not scored in the Premier League since March 2nd. This lack of goals has already left the Blues five points behind London rivals Arsenal and this has supposedly led Mourinho to look towards the transfer market for a new forward.

Options for the Stamford Bridge club include Liverpool’s striker Luis Suarez as Jose tries to find players who are not cup tied in the Champions League. But as one punter quips, it seems unlikely that the Uruguayan will be sold this season.

Of course, excellent young talent Romelu Lukaku is on loan at Everton for the rest of the season and unfortunately for the Blues fans cannot be recalled in January.

It appears that they are no real front runners for Mourinho, but that won’t stop the Blues looking for more goals in the transfer market.

Which striker do you think Mourinho should target in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
