Metro have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as they note that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has more than one plan to sign a forward this summer and has no worries about the Wayne Rooney bid failing.
Of course as one of the most prepared managers in football, let alone the Premier League, Mourinho has not one contingency plan but two.
Asked what he would do if he failed to land England international Wayne Rooney, he quipped he not only had a plan B, but also a plan C.
As one of our punters quips, this is probably a good thing, given the chance of signing Rooney is slim and second target Samuel Eto’o has reportedly pledged his future to current side Anzhi Makhachkala. Quite who the plan C is remains to be seen however.
When asked specifically about Rooney, Mourinho noted in his typical style that: “You try, because nobody forbids you to try.
“When you think that you’d like to have one player and the market is open and the official bids are not forbidden, official bids are always accepted in an ethical way.
“Of course, the player’s owners they can do exactly what we did in relation to David Luiz and Barcelona.”
Mourinho clearly has back up options, and given his faith in his current front men and the strong rumours linking Demba Ba to Serie A side Roma, this comes as no shock.
If Rooney is plan A and Eto’o is plan B, who is Mourinho’s plan C option? Let us know your thoughts below.
