It’s happy hour in the Football Transfer Tavern as regulars celebrate the end of another working week and look forward to a weekend filled of Premier League action
James Dickenson from The Express is one of the few journalists who are taking advantage of the 2 for 1 offer and he brings with him news of a possible reunion at Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho.
He suggests that Mourinho is plotting a raid on his former club Real Madrid to sign German international midfielder Sami Khedira as he looks to fend off reported interest from Manchester United.
As their summer transfer activity hit the buffers, David Moyes saw a £43 million offer for the midfield man rejected on deadline day with Madrid considering it as too late.
Instead Madrid recouped some of the £86 million spent on Gareth Bale by selling Mesut Ozil to Arsenal for £42.5 million, while United only managed to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
Now it appears that Mourinho has outlined for move of the player when the January transfer window opens, with the paper suggesting that he plans to sign Khedira ‘at any cost’.
Interestingly Khedira’s relations in Spain looked fraught after he claimed he was being made a ‘scapegoat’ by the Spanish press and that could see him looking to move on in the New Year.
The 26-year-old, who has made 11 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, is thought to be a key target for Mourinho as looks to get approval from Roman Abramovich to pay over £40 million for the defensive midfielder in January.
