John Cross from MirrorFootball is a regular in the Football Transfer Tavern and he’s back in today to inform Chelsea supporters that Jose Mourinho is plotting a move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.
The former Madrid coach remains on good terms with the defensive midfielder who Cross suggests could now be surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu following the summer arrival of highly-rated Spanish youngsters Asier Illarramendi and Isco.
Madrid already have Luka Modric, Xabi Alonso and Mesut Ozil in a crowded central area and the arrival of the two Spain U-21 starlets could see the 26-year-old leaving this summer under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Mourinho now wants to bring in the German international, who was such an integral part of his side at Madrid, to add some much-needed strength to his midfield at Stamford Bridge and as a willing runner of the ball Khedira will certainly add that. Madrid are likely to want about £20m for the former VfB Stuttgart man as they look to raise funds to pay for Tottenham star Gareth Bale.
The Blues had been tracking the progress of Roma’s Daniele De Rossi but the Italian now seems set to remain at the club where he has spent his entire career. Khedira has a contract with Madrid until 2016 and has made 126 appearances for the La Liga club since his arrival in the summer of 2010 but he may now leave with winning a place in the German national team for the World Cup in mind.
