Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Chelsea fans look excited at the claim from the Daily Express who note that Jose Mourinho could be set for a reunion with one of his former star players.
Before Chelsea fans start getting really excited, it is probably fair to point out that the player in question is Samuel Eto’o, who of course won the treble under Jose Mourinho during his time at Inter Milan.
The Cameroonian forward is no stranger to top flight football having been successful at Barcelona, Inter Milan and making the big money move to Anzhi Makhachkala before deciding that he wanted to come back and potentially become one of the top forwards in the world again – something that is more than possible under Mourinho.
The Chelsea manager is going all out to land Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney yet as we all know, is one of the most prepared men in football and knows that a back up option is required should David Moyes stand firm and refuse to allow the player to leave Old Trafford.
Mourinho ideally would like to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge and has already made a couple of big money bids in order to try and do so, and is willing to come in with a third bid for Rooney and maybe even a fourth if necessary.
However, Mourinho will not leave to it the very last day without an option to bring in another forward – something the club are in dire need of and has contacted representatives of Eto’o as a back up option.
Will Chelsea make a play for Samuel Eto’o before the end of August? Let us know your thoughts below.
